Chiropractic Pain & Wellness Care

Chiropractic “treatments” focus on the restoration of normal motion to the joints of the spine and extremities (arms & legs) that are not moving sufficiently or properly. To restore proper biomechanical motion and function, the chiropractic adjustment is utilized.
A chiropractic adjustment is a fast, yet gentle, thrusting movement performed to areas of the spine and other joints of the body that are fixated, painful, in spasm or just not moving properly. By restoring proper motion, the joints can move freely through their full, natural range thus relieving unwanted stress on the surrounding soft tissue and bony structures. This is a very effective method for reducing pain and stiffness. However, chiropractic care is not only used for managing pain. Many choose to use chiropractic as a means to improve overall function and athletic abilities as well as to help prevent future problems during the aging process.

Chiropractic is part of an integrated, holistic approach to health. It is a natural way to optimize health and biomechanical function of the spine. Chiropractic care works to improve the relationship of the spinal column and the nerves that come from it, which control function and movement of the entire body. Chiropractic adjustments allow your body to function better, which helps you to heal faster, resist infection, and recover more quickly when injury or illness happens.

Chiropractic is the philosophy, art, and science of how the body functions. It is concerned with the relationship between the spine and nervous system, and how that relationship affects your health. Chiropractic care is unlike any other because it does not involve the use of medication or surgery. Instead, it is a form of health care which focuses on the cause and correction of problems rather than covering up symptoms.

Symptoms are your body’s way of telling you that something is wrong. When a person experiences pain, numbness, tingling, headaches, or decreased function, it is a sign that your body has a problem. Rather than mask the problem with pills or injections, chiropractic seeks to correct the root cause of the problem and improve overall health and function.

Your nervous system controls EVERY function in your body, from breathing to walking to digestion. It controls all of your muscles, tissues and internal organs. Minor interference to the nervous system causes malfunction. Major interference to the nervous system causes paralysis and death. Since all of your nerves originate from the spinal cord, vertebral subluxations are a common cause of nerve interference. Correction of vertebral subluxations restores nerve function and allows the body to function at 100%.

A vertebral subluxation occurs when improper movement of the spinal bones results in decreased function of the nervous system. The subluxation is a biomechanical problem that cannot be corrected with medication.

Many conditions can be related to one or more vertebral subluxations. Chiropractic adjustments can help with many of these, sometimes relieving or even eliminating the symptoms of:
  • Migraines
  • Muscle spasms
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Arm/hand pain
  • Whiplash
  • Colic
  • Hip pain
  • Low back pain
  • Arthritis
  • Joint pain
  • Colds and flu
  • Congestion
  • Ear infections
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Sciatica
  • High blood pressure
  • Asthma
  • Insomia
  • Emphysema
  • Bed wetting
  • Decreased energy
  • Headaches
  • Constipation
  • Joint stiffness
  • Numbness
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Infertility
  • Shoulder pain

When performed correctly, chiropractic adjustments should not hurt at all. In fact, people often report that they feel quite good! Many first time chiropractic patients are afraid of the “cracking” sound that comes with an adjustment, but the sound you hear is simply gases being released from the joint; it is no different than the sound you hear when cracking your knuckles. However, if the sound is disturbing or uncomfortable, there are alternative, low force techniques that can be used.
